After the Media Committee at J.C. Magill Elementary rejected her initial three requests to have the first four Harry Potter books removed from the school library, Mallory appealed to the local school system which Magill feeds into. Magill Elementary resides within the South Gwinnett cluster, and feeds directly into Grace Snell Middle School and South Gwinnett High School. It is this South Gwinnett cluster which heard Mallory’s case in two separate hearings; in both instances, the decision of the media committee at J.C. Magill was upheld. Mallory then appealed again to the local school board, expanding her request to all (at the time) six Harry Potter books for all Gwinnett County schools. It is at this stage where public interest began to take hold and our case becomes more involved.
