Telena Marie Turner is a communication studies major and English literature minor at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise. Graduating in the class of 2020, she plans to attend graduate school and pursue a career in higher education.

Raised in Haysi, a small town in the mountains of Southwest Virginia, she has a love for the Appalachian Mountains, which she has called home all her life.

As a reader and writer, she has a profound appreciation for story-telling and for great stories, which have changed her life.

As a communication studies student, she has an interest in education, public speaking, and rhetorical studies, which have inspired her life.

The Floatplane Project represents the culmination of all these interests: the opportunity to learn how to conduct research, to digitally preserve local history, and to present ideas learned in the COPLACDigital course, A Burning Idea: Challenging and Censoring Books.
