The complainant thought the book was inappropriate for his middle-school-aged daughter\u2014it was from the high school display section\u2014and thought it should be removed from the district&#8217;s summer reading list because of sexually explicit content.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_278\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 173px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-278 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/burn.coplacdigital.org\/geneseo\/files\/2018\/04\/rainbow-boys-alex.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"163\" height=\"250\" \/><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">&#8220;Rainbow Boys&#8221; Amazon.com, Simon and Schulster, 2001<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Agostenelli agreed with the parent&#8217;s concerns and removed the book from the summer reading list. However, Agostenelli failed to follow the guidelines laid out by the school for situations such as these. The book removal gets reported in the\u00a0<em>Democrat and Chronicle<\/em>\u00a0by journalist Bennett Loudon.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_283\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 136px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-283 size-full\" title=\"&quot;Bennett J. Loudon&quot; Democrat and Chronicle, Louden, 2003\" src=\"http:\/\/burn.coplacdigital.org\/geneseo\/files\/2018\/04\/ben-j-louden.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"126\" height=\"126\" \/><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Bennett Louden, reporter for the <em>D&amp;C.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Then, following an influx of criticism and support for the decision submitted to both Webster Schools and the\u00a0<em>Democrat and Chronicle,\u00a0<\/em>a meeting was held at Webster District Offices to discuss the challenge to <em>Rainbow Boys<\/em>.\u00a0At the meeting, Webster librarian <a href=\"http:\/\/burn.coplacdigital.org\/geneseo\/trish-warren-librarian\/\">Trish Warren<\/a> argued that District Policy 5292 regarding challenges to library material was not followed and thus, the book must be re-challenged.
